Welcome

Welcome to 2017.

Our Kereru Park Campus Whanau are all looking forward to another exciting year in 2017. The introduction of three digital classrooms in our senior classes in 2016 was a significant step for us to provide 21st Century learning facilities for our students. We are pleased to introduce another class in 2017 where our Year 1 & 2 students in Te Mahuri will be using IPads as part of the learning journeys.

Having digital classrooms has allowed us to become more visible where whanau are able to follow their childrens progress on a daily basis. Students and teachers are feeling really motivated and we are looking forward to seeing a lot of achievement across the curriculum to continue as a result.

Our big focus in term one will be redeveloping our school kaupapa and answering the questions "What does KPC stand for? What are our values today in a 21st century environment? and How will we make our students aspirations a reality?'. The Board and I are really looking forward to working with our students, staff, whanau and wider community to get a collective answer to those questions.

With our school pool open from day one swimming will be part of the daily programme and students will be able to swim every lunchtime to cool off during these very hot summer days.

At KPC we provide a safe, secure and happy environment, aimed to motivate and engage all learners. Nestled among native trees with swooping Kereru and Tui, KPC has a modern 21st Century learning environment ready to assist students to develop life skills and achieve academic success. With over 140 students in seven classes ranging from Years 0-8, KPC is fast becoming the school of choice in Papakura.

Pukeroihi Te Kohanga Reo is based on our school grounds and our total immersion unit "Te Mahuri" works closely with their staff and tamariki. This allows for a smooth transition for tamariki into our unit, once their Kohanga years are complete. We also visit other local Kohanga and are proud to be the only Mainstream School in Papakura which offers Rumaki Reo (Total Immersion Maori) from Years 1-8 accredited at Level 1. Our aspiration is to open the first Whare Kura in Papakura (College) so that our rumaki students have a vaiable option once they have completed their primary education. While we acknowledge this important part of our school, our mainstream classes have been making amazing progress for our learners and our blend of experienced and new teachers offers a stimulating and motivating learning environment for all.

Our philosophy towards all students in our school is that they can learn, and under our guidance will learn. Our values of Integrity, Confidence and Excellence underpin everything we do as a school. Building the solid foundation for our learners to be able to lead a happy and productive life through strong classroom practice and well resourced programmes is our priority.

I look forward to meeting you all this year and I wish you all the best for 2017.
